- In Krishna basin, the entire share of {{512}} TMC of dependable water out of 811 TMC in the State of A.P in Krishna basin is fully harnessed.
- In the AP Reorganization Act, 2014 under Section {{89**cue 89bp"*}}, Krishna-Water-Dispute-Tribuanl(KWDT-II) is mandated to make project specific allocation in Krishna basin for both AP and Telangana and determine operation protocol for project wise releases in the event of deficit flows.
- The apportionment of waters of river Godavari between two successor states is yet to be finalized. The State of A.P is utilizing {{308.703}} TMC under existing projects and 468.688 TMC is planned for utilization under ongoing projects.

The achievements of irrigation sector in the state till now
?
1. Purushothapatnam Lift Irrigation scheme :
- The scheme is intended to utilize the flood water of river godavari and to get the early benefits of the left main canal, by constructing a lift irrigation scheme near purushoth apatnam in Seethanagaram mandal of East godavari district. The main objective of the project is to supply the irrigational, drinking water and supply of water industrial needs in Vishakha district.
2. Kondaveeti vagu Lift Irrigation scheme:
- The scheme is intended to save the capital city from inundation by lifting of 5000 Cusecs of flood water of Kondaveeti vagu and letting into River Krishna at Undavalli Village on upstream of Prakasam Barrage, when the water level in Krishna River is more than the water level in Kondaveeti vagu. Water is supplied to both Khariff and Rabi crops in Godavari Delta.

3. Pattiseema Ettipothala project:
- It was constructed at Pattisema in Polavaram mandal of Eluru district as a part of Polavaram right bank canal to provide the water for krishna delta and also for Eluru & West godavari district.
4. Handri-Niva Project :
- It is also known as Anantha Venkata Reddy Handri-Niva Sujala Sravanthi Ettipothala Project. It supplies the Irrigated and drinking water for the backward regions of Rayalaseema.
5. Sangam Barrage:
- 97% was completed and inagurated by AP honorable C.M on 06-09- 2023. Stabilization of ayacuts under Penna Delta System, contemplating to supply water to Nellore tank supply channel, Kanupur canal on right side, Duvvur canal, Kanigiri main canal and Kavali canal on left side.
6. Nellore Barrage:
- 97% was completed and inagurated by AP honorable C.M on 06-09- 2023. Stabilization of 99525 Acres in covered under Sagam Barrage.
Projects under Jalayagnam
?
- The Irrigation Projects taken up under Jalayagnam are under progress and programmed to be completed on priority for providing irrigation to cultivable lands, drinking water and industrial water, Particularly in the drought prone Rayalaseema, Prakasam & Backwards districts of Srikakulam, Vijayanagaram, Vishkapatnam and included it as one of the items under 'Navaratnalu'.
- The works of Polavaram, Babu Jagjivan Ram Uttarandhra Sujala Sravanthi, Poola Subbaiah Veligonda projects, Sri Krishna Devaraya Galeru Nagari Sujala Sravanthi (GNSS) and Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) projects are under brisk progress.
- Out of 54 Jalayagnam Irrigation Projects proposed in the divided state of Andhra Pradesh, 14 Projects are completed and in 2 other Projects, Phase-l is completed.
- The other Jalayagnam Projects are prioritized based on their progress, balance funds required and the benefits that will be accrued. Action plan is chalked out for completion of these projects in phased manner in the next 3 years.
- Contemplated Irrigation potential :
- Completion of 40 Jalayagnam Projects (23 major + 7 Medium + 4 Flood Banks + 6 Modernisation), will create 36.44 lakh acres of new Irrigation Potential under Major, Medium Irrigation projects besides stabilization of 4.35 lakh acres.
New targets for the year 2022-23

- 12 Projects (11 projects under Jalayagnam and 1 New project) are proposed to be completed on war footing Sangam and Nellore Barrage Works are programmed for completion by Rabi season of this year.
The details of ongoing Jalayagnam projects are given below
- BRR (Bodepally Rajagopal Rao Vamsadhara Project Stage 1I&Phase II):
- The scheme benefits 225 villages in 9 mandals of Srikakulam district, with the creation of 12,200 Acres new Ayacut. The target date of completion of this project is 2023.

- (a) Sardar Gouthu Lachanna Thotapalli Barrage Project:
- 10 Mandals covering 155 Villages in Vizianagaram district and 7 mandalas covering 132 villages in Srikakulam district. Apart from providing Irrigation Water, the scheme intends to feed 42 Tanks for drinking water supply in 24 villages enroute. with the creation of 47,888 Acres new Ayacut. The target date of completion of this project is 2023.
- b. Gajapathi Nagaram branch canal: Target of completion of this project is 2023. with the creation of 15,000 Acres new Ayacut.
- Tharaka Rama Theertha Sagaram Reservoir:
- Irrigation facilities to new ayacut 16,538 acres and stablize 8,172 acres under Denkada anicut in Vijayanagaram District. The target date of completion of this project is December 2023.
- Polavaram Irrigation Project:
- The project is taken up as National project. It is a multipurpose terminal reservoir project located near Ramayyapeta village of polavaram mandal in Eluru District. It was accorded with status of National project under AP Reorganisation act 2014, The detials of the project given below..
- Gross storage Capacity of Reservoir 194.6 TMC. Utilization of water under the project 322.73 TMC.
- 80 TMC of Godavari water to be diverted to Krishna river.
- Hydro Power Installed capacity is 960 MW
- 7.2 lakh Acres of new ayacut to be created and Stabilization of 23.5 lakhs acres under KDS (Krishna Delta scheme) + GDS + Yeleru Delta Systems.
- 7.2 lakh Acres of new ayacut of PIP includes the ayacut of 1.86 lakh
- Acres under Pushkaram LIS and 2.066 Acres under Tadipudi LIS.
- 23.44 TMC of water to the habitations and industries in and around Vishakhapatnam city including Vizag steel plant. Drinking water facility to 540 villages for a population of 28.5 lakh enroute canals.
- The target date of completion of this project is June 2024
- Modernization of Godavari Delta System:
- Stabilisation of Ayacut in East and West Godavari Dists.
- The target date of completion of this project is 2023
- Modernization of Krishna Delta system:
- Stabilisation of Ayacut in West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur and Prakhasam Districts. The target date of completion of this project is 2023.
- Varikapudisela LI Scheme:
- Creating New aycut of 24900 Acrs in Macharla Area in Palnadu district.
- The target date of completion of this project is 2023.
- Poolasubbaiah Veligonda Project Phase I:
- The project is contemplated to provide irrigation facilities to about 4.47 lakh Acres & drinking water facilities to 15.25 lakh people in drought prone flouride affected 30 mandals of Prakasam, Nellore & Kadapa districts. This project is intended utilising 43.50 TMC of Krishna River flood water by gravity.
- The target date of completion of this project is 2023.
- Poolasubbaiah Veligonda Project Phase II: completion of this project is 2023.

- Korisapadu LI Scheme:
- It envisages utilizing 1.330 TMC of water to irrigate 20,000 Ac under Micro-Irrigation system in Korisapadu & Naguluppalapadu Mandals of Prakasam district.
- The target date of completion of this project is 2023.
- Modernization of Penna Delta System:
- a. Pennar River Canal System:
- Ayacut of 247000 acres covered in ayacut of 385000 acres of Sangam Barrage. It is constructed at sangam in nellore district.
- b. Kanpur Canal System:
- 72.37% was completed and 64000 Acres of ayacut is covered in ayacut of 385000 acres of Sangam barrage. It is in nellore.
- a. Pennar River Canal System:
- Galeru Nagari Sujala Sravanthi Phase - I & Phase II :
- Creating New aycut of 2,58,500 Acrs. The target date of completion of this project is 2025 Phase-I and 2026 Pahse-II.
- Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi Project Phase - 1 & Phase II:
- Creating New aycut of 5,33,417 Acrs in Kurnool, Ananthapur, Satyasai, Chittoor and Kadapa districts.

Important Irrigational Projects by old district wise
1) Projects in Srikakulam district
?
- a) Vamsadhara Project Phase-I : It was constructed at gotta village on Vamsadhara. It is also called as Bodepalli Rajagopal Rao project and it is also known as Gotta barriage. Project was completed 1979, with total ayacut of 1.48 lakh acres.
- b) Vamsadhara Project Phase-II : It was constructed at Neredi metta on Vamsadhara river 1977-76.
- c) Vengalaraya sagaram project: It was constructed on suvarnamukhi river.
- d) Thotapalli project: It is under construction on Nagavalli river.
- e) Mudduvalasa Project : It is located on Suvarnamukhi river.
- f) Jamparakota Reservoir : It is underconstruction on the Peddagadda river.
- g) Vattigadda Reservoir : It is located at Ramada in Parvatipuram mandal of Srikakulam district on Vattigadda, a tributary of river Nagavali. It was inaugarated in 1964. It provides water for cultivation to 16,682 acres.
2) Projects in Vizianagaram district
?
- a) Vengalaraya Sagar Reservoir: The Vengalaraya sagar reservoir was built on river suvarnamukhi between Sambara village of Makkuva mandal and Lakshmipuram village of Salur mandal.
- It is providing water to 10,000 acres only in Makkuva and Bobbili mandals. It provides water for cultivation to 24,710.
- b) Vegavathi dam: A dam was built at Kar-rivalasa village of pachipenta mandal with the construction of Pedagedda reservoir flow of river vegavathi slowed down. It provides water for cultivation to 4,200 acres.
- c) Adarugedda project: This reservoir is being built on Adarugedda at Adam village of Makkuva mandal.
- d) Janjuvathi rubber dam: It was the first project started as a part of the prestigious 'Jalayagnam' scheme. This rubber dam was first of its kind built in Asia. It was built on river Janjuvathi in Komarada mandal of Vizianagaram district and was dedicated to the nation on Ist January 2006. Janjuvathi Reservoir provides for cultivation to 24,640 acres.
- e) Thotapally reservoir: This is the largest reservoir in the district. It is located at a distance of 12 kms from Parvati puram town, at Thotapally of Garugubilli mandal on river Nagavali.
- f) Peddagadda Reservoir: It was the first project to be completed in Jalayagnam scheme. It was built at kesali village of Pachipenta mandal, Vizianagaram district, on Vegavathi river.
- g) Tarakarama teertha sagar : The Tarakaramateertha sagar project is being built on river Champavathi at kotagandredu of Gurlamanddal.
- h) Andra reservoir : The Andra reservoir was built on river Champavathi between Andra and Lothugedda villages.

- Thatipudi Reservoir : It was built at Thatipudi village of Gantyada mandal on river Gostani.
3) Projects in Visakhapatnam district

- a) Raivada Reservoir: It is located in Devarapalli mandal. Irrigation water is being provided to 15,100 acres in Lakkavaram, Gavaravaram, Revallu and Chodavaram villages.
- b) Pedderu Reservoir: Pedderu Reservoir was constructed on Pedderu river in Mudugula mandal.
- c) Konam Reservoir : It was constructed on Konam river in Chidikada mandal.
- d) Tandava Reservoir : Water from Tandava river, which flows from Nathavaram mandal provides irrigation water to 48,000 acres in Payakaraopeta and Nakkapalli mandals.
4) Projects in West Godavari district
?
- a) Tadipudi Ethipothala scheme: It is being constructed at Tallapudi village of Tallapudi mandal.
- It was planned to provide irrigation facilities to 2,06,600 acres through Indira sagar main-right canal and also drinking water to around 5,40,000 people through this project.
- b) Kowada Reservoir Scheme: This is being constructed as a medium level irrigation project.
- c) Tammileru Reservoir : The Tammileru reservoir was built as a medium level irrigation project at Nagireddy gudem of chintalapudi mandal on River Tammileru.
- d) Errakaluva reservoir : This was constructed as on Errakaluva river at Konguvarigudam village of Jangareddy mandal and is called as karatam Krishnamurthy Errakaluva reservoir.
- e) Pattiseema Ettipothala project : It was constructed at Pattisema in Polavaram mandal of Eluru district as a part of Polavaram right bank canal to provide the water for krishna delta and also for Eluru & West godavari district.
- g) Indira sagar polavaram project: This is being built at Ramayyapeta village of polavaram mandal of West Godavari (Present Eluru) district.
- It would also produce 960 mw electricity. It is also planned, to divert 80 MCS of Godavari water through right main canal and merge/link it with Krishna and also to provide 23.44 TMCS of water for drinking and industrial purposes to Visakhapatnam and out skirts through canals.
- The project will provides water for irrigation to 7.20 lakh acres.
5) Projects in East Godavari district
?
- a) Sir Arthur cotton barrage: It was constructed on river Godavari at dawaleswaram. The project construction was started in 1847. and it was completed in 1852 during the 1976 when the project was damaged due to the floods, It was renovated again as per the recomendation of Mitra committee.
- b) Pampa reservoir : It was constructed on river Pampa at Annavaram
- c) Eleru Irrigation scheme: It was constructed on Eleru river.
- d) Eleru Project : It was constructed on Eleru river to provide water for Visakha steel plant.
- e) Maddigadda Reservoir : It was constructed on Maddigadda river.

- Puskara Ettipothala Project: It is also called as Thota venkatachalam puskara Ettipothala project. and it was constructed at Purushotham patnam village in Seethanagar mandal on the left bank canal of Godavari.

7) Projects in Guntur district

- a) Nagarjuna Sagar Project : Jawaharlal Nehru, the then PM, laid foundation stone to this project on 10 December 1955 and it was dedicated to nation by Indira Gandhi, the then PM on 4 August 1967.

- There are two canals in this project.
- The right canal or Jawahar canal is 203 kms long and provides water to Guntur and Prakasam districts.
- The left canal or LalBahadur canal provides water to Nandigama region of Krishna district.
- b) Pulichintala (Now it is in Palnadu district) A new project is being built at Pulichintala village of Bellamkonda mandal in Pedakurapadu constituency. At first it was called as Pulichintala project but name was changed to kanuri Lakshman Rao project. It is being built 85 kms upstream to Prakasam Barrage and 115 kms downstream to Nagarjuna sagar. It's objective is to provide and stabilise irrigation facilities to 12.5 lakh acres in Guntur, Palnadu, Krishna, NTR and Prakasam districts.
8) Projects in Prakasam district

- a) Mopadu: It was built on river munneru in Kanigiri mandal.

- f) Palleru Reservoir Project: It was constructed on river paleru at sangameshwaram of Ponnaluru mandal and intended to provide drinking water for 15 villages in Ponnaluru, Marripadu, Kondapi and Jarugumalli mandals and Irrigation water for 7186 Acres.
- g) Kanaparti Lift Irrigation Project : It was constructed on Gundlakamma river.
9) Projects in Nellore district

- a) Sangam Barrage: Project was started at sangam village in 1882 and completed in 1886, and provides Irrigation to the Nellore tank by the right canal and for the Kanigiri reservoir by the left canal.
- b) Nellore Barrage : It was started in 1853 in earstwhile in Madras state and it's construction was completed in 1854-55.
- c) Somasila Project: It was built on river Penna at somasila village in Anantha sagaram mandal of Nellore district. In 1975 laid foundation for the construction of this project. and completed in 1988 with the capacity of 75 TMC.
- It is intended for provide Irrigation to Nellore district. and also drinking water for Nellore and Kavali towns.

- b) Jharikona Project : It was constructed on river Jharikona to provide Irrigation & drinking water to the Mandals of Sambepalli and Kalakada in Chittoor & Kadapa district.
- c) Pulivendula Branch Canal: It was constructed to Allieviate drought conditions in the joint scheme of Upper thungabhadra canal. and Chitravathi.
- d) Annamayya Project: It was built on river Cheyyeru at Badina Gadda in Rajampeta mandal to provide Irrigation for Rajampeta & Pullampeta mandals.

- c) Malimadugu project : It was built to provide Irrigation for Renigunta and Yerpedu mandals.
- d) Araniyar Project: It was built for providing the Irrigation to 10,000 Acres in Nagalapuram and Pichatooru Mandals.
- e) Bugga-Satrawada Project :This project is built at nagari on kusasthali river, which originates in Krustpuram of karvetinagaram mandal. It supplies water for Irrigation to 30,268 acres and 48 ponds were linked by this in nagari, Nindra, vijayapuram and Pichatur mandals.
- f) Mulakona Project : It was built at Mulakona in 2000 to provide drinking water to puthoor town.
- g) Bahuda Project: This minor irrigation project is located at mushtoor of nimmanapalle mandal on Bahuda river originates in Karnataka and flows through Madanapalli.
- h) Pincha Project: This project was constructed at the borders of Jillellamandha grampanchayat of kambhamvaripalle mandal on Pincha river.
- i) NTR Reservoir: It was constructed at Jillellamandha in Penumur mandal on the river Niva.
- k) Peddur Project : It was constructed in Thamballapalli mandal on the Peddur stream.
- Chinneru Project : It was constructed in Thamballapalli mandal on the Chinneru stream. m) Akumanugutta project : It was built on river Kushavati in Peddaman dyam mandal.
12) Projects in Kurnool district
?
- a) Srisailam Project : It was built at Srisailam on river Krishna in Kurnool district. The construction of the project was started in 1963 and completed in 1984. It was named as NeelamSanjeeva Reddy Project
- It is a joint project of Telangana & A.P and basically it was meant for Hydroelectricity production. It has 2 canals such as..

- SLBC (Srisailam Left Bank Canal) : Provide water for Irrigation and drinking water in Nalgonda districts it has the 900 M.W of power installed capacity.
- SRBC (Srisailam Right Bank Canal) : Provide water for Irrigation in Kurnool & Kadapa districts it has the 770 M.W of power installed ca-pacity.
- Water from Bhanakacharla regulator of kurnool district is being directed to SRBC canal and is used to irrigate 65,000 hectares the Gorakallu Balancing reservoir and Avuku reservoir were also built depending upon this canal.
- Handri Neevai Intended to construct left Irrigation system at malyala of Nandikotkur mandal and 40Tmcs of water from Srisailam reservoir stream is lifted to irrigate 6.025 lakh acres in Kurnool, Ananthapur & Chittoor, districts and to provide drinking water to the region.
- b) Thungabhadra: It is a joint project of A.P & Karnataka. Total allocation of water to this project is 230 Tmcs of Net waters. Out of these 151.4 Imcs allocated for Karnataka and 77.5 Tmes for A.P. The total ayucut under this project is 4.85 lakh acres.
- The Thungabhadra low level canal supplies the Irrigated water to the Kurnool district and the high level canal supplies the water to Anantapur district.
- c) Gajuladinne Project: This was built in 1969-70 at Gajuladinne of Pathikonda mandal of Kurnool district on the Handri river. Gajuladinne project provides water for irrigation to 25,340 acres.
- d) Handri-Niva Project: It is also known as Anantha Venkata Reddy Handri-Niva Sujala Sravanthi Ettipothala Project. It supplies the Irrigated and drinking water for the backward regions of Rayalaseema.
- e) KC Canal: It is also known as Kurnool - Cuddappah Canal started from Sunkesula village. It construction work started in 1863 and completed 1870. The total ayucut is 2.26 lakh acres. Out of these 1.74 lakh acres in Kurnool district and 0.92 lakhs in Cuddapah district.
- f) Sunkesula Project: The sunkesula reservoir was constructed as a part of srisailam right canal project. It was built near sunkesula on river Thungabhadra in the Kodumur constituency of Kurnool district, and the barrage was named after the late ex cm Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy this reservoir irrigation a total of 2,64,822 acres of which 1,84,272 acres are in Kurnool district while 80,550 acres are in Kadapa district.

- g) Alaganur Balancing Reservoir : This was built to prevent wastage of water from kc canal (due to lack of repairs) and to irrigate ayacut lands in kadapa district. It was constructed at Alaganur of midutur mandal in Nandi kotkur constituency of Kurnool district.
- h) Sanjeevayya Sagar: This reservoir was built on Handri river at Gonegandla of Kurnool district. It has a storage capacity of 4.5 TMCS and irrigates 25,488 acres in Gonegandla, Kodumuru, Krishnagiri and devanakonda mandals.
- i) Guru Raghavendra Ethipothala Project: The objective of project was to irrigate 50,000 acres in mantralayam, Emmiganur and Kodumur con-stituencies.
- j) Pattiseema Project/Veligodu Project: It was built on river kundu at Veligodu in Kurnool district as a component of Telugu Ganga Project.
- k) Mutchumarri Ethipothala Project: It was strated on september 8th 2017 on the occassion of "Jalasiriki Harthi" Programme at Mutchumarri in Nandikotkur mandal it supplies the water to KC canal on one side and other side to Hundry-Neeva canal. A supplementary pump house at Mutchumarri to draw water from Srisailam reservoir at 800 feet (244 m) MSL is in advanced stage of construction. This pump house with its pipelines and canals can feed the near by KC canal and the Malyala pump house of Handri Neeva lift canal, from the dead storage water even during the worst monsoon rains for the drinking water needs of Rayalaseem region.
13) Projects in Anantapur district
?
- a) Thunga Bhadra Dam: The T.B.P.H.L.C. (Thunga Bhadra Project High Level Canal) scheme is a joint venture of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh states. The Right Bank High Level Canal (R.B.H.L.C) takes off from Right bank of T.B. Dam and runs in Karnataka and enters in Andhra Pradesh at Km 105.437 and contemplated to irrigate an ayacut of 2.849 Lakhs Acres out of this 1,45,236 Acres are in Ananthapuram District and the remaining is Kurnool and Kadapa Districts.
- The scheme has been taken up in the following two stages.
- T.B.P.H.L.C. Scheme Stage-I
- T.B.P.H.L.C. Scheme Stage-II
- T.B.P.H.L.C. Stage-I : The T.B.P.H.L.C. Scheme Stage-I has been taken up in the year 1960 and completed by 1966 creating an Irrigation Potential of 1,07,516 in Ananthapuram District The T.B.P HLC consists of the following Components.
- a) High Level Main Canal (H.LM.C) from A.P. Border to Vagu leading to Mid Pennar Reservoir (M.P.R)
- b) Mid Pennar Reservoir (M.P.R) with a Gross Storage Capacity of 5 T.Mcft.
- c) Mid Pennar South Canal (M.P.S.C)
- d) Tadipatri Branch Canal (T.B.C).
- e) Mid Pennar North Canal (M.P.N.C).
- T.B.P.H.L.C. STAGE-II : The T.B.P.H.L.C. Scheme Stage-Il has been taken up during 1967 contemplating an irrigation potential to an extent of 32,063 acres in Ananthapuram District.
- The T.B.P.H.L.C. Scheme Stage-II consists of the following components with in the District.
- a) Subbaraya Sagar Balancing Reservoir (S.S.B.R)
- b) Muchukota Balancing Reservoir (M.B.R)
- c) Guntakal Branch Canal (G.B.C) System
- d) Penna Ahobilam Balancing Reservoir (P.A.B.R)
- e) Excavation of Penna Ahobilam Balancing Reservoir Right Canal (P.A.B.R.Right Canal)
- f) Yadiki Canal system
- Out of the above works, item No. a) and b) are completed. Item No. c) to
- e) are almost completed except distributory and No. f) is in Progress under EPC turn key system.
- b) Yogi Vemana Reservoir: Construction of this project has been commenced in Mudigubba mandal of Anantapur district.
- c) Upper Pennar Project/Peruru Dam: The upper pennar project of perur dam was built on river Penna in Ramagiri mandal of Anantapur dis-trict.
- d) Chagallu Reservoir: This was constructed between two hills at chagallu villages of pedapappuru mandal on the Penna river.
- e) BhairavaniTippa (BT) Project : This project is located in Gummagatta mandal of Anantapur district. This project would be filled by rain water from upstream of Karnataka, there are two canals in this project, intended to irrigate 12,009 acres, mainly in Gummagutta, Brahmasam udram and Rayadurgam mandals.
- f) Chennarayaswamy Temple Project: This project was commenced on papaghni river in Tanakallu mandal.
- g) Pennar Kumudwathi: Construction of this project on Penna river in Parigi mandal of Anantapur district.
